Scrap to the Future Action, Action, Action!

The East Kootenay Roller Derby Semi Finals were held in Fernie, BC, last weekend. A roaring success, judging by the rowdy crowd attending.

The first bout of the evening, saw a much anticipated match up between the Killer Rollbots and the Bavarian Barbarians. The Bavarian Barbarians declared a forfeit just days prior to the event, due to  injuries to key players on their team. However, this gave them the opportunity to recruit a pair of upcoming skaters from Creston's Black Eyed Cherries: Kerrazzy and Meter Maid. Watch out for this pair!

With Coach Lime trackside on their bench, the Bavarian Barbarians put up more than a good fight, but were overcome by the cohesive, strategic Rollbot game. The bout ended in a score of 267 to 145 to the Killer Rollbots, who advance to the finals in Marysville on September 15th.

Second bout of the night was between the home town team, Fernie's Avalanche City Roller Girls and Cranbrook's Mountain Town Maulers. Avalanche City, also down to only eight players due to injuries and illness, came out and showed their home crowd what hard work and solid teamwork can achieve. Missing Coach HeWore on their bench, the girls were still able to channel his wisdom and pull out a win against the Maulers, despite the two new Mountain Town Maulers' jammers giving them a real run for their money! Boy, do those Maulers sport a mean hit!!

Final score 255-108. Avalanche City through to the finals.
