ACRG 39 POINT WINNERS OVER LAST YEARS CHAMPIONS

Fernie's Avalanche City Roller Girls came home victorious in EKRDLs Round 2 Double Header when they went head to head with last years Champions Invermeres Killer Rollbots. ACRG hit the track with one clear goal, to win this rematch. From start to finish the bout was evenly match. In the beginning some costly penalties saw ACRG in the box leaving the Rollbots to edge out their lead, but ACRG was determined and slowly clawed their way back to head into the second half with a narrow 4 point lead.

Half time gave the teams time to regroup and refocus. The second half was a tight battle were the margin never spread more that 15 points. ACRG put there strategies and game play into action staying level headed and focused on the bout. Both teams fought hard until the very end but in dying minutes ACRG put their foot down. Forcing penalties on the Rollbots tired Jammers, ACRG ran away with a 39 point victory. Final score ACRG 184 to Rollbots 145.

The win was a great victory as these too teams have developed quite rivalry since the league was started back in 2011.

The second bout saw close rivals Cranbook's Mountain town Maulers face off with home team Kimberley's Bavarian Barbarians. Both teams started off at an even pace, but the Bavarians Jammers were able to edge out the score board.

The Bavarians went into the second half with the lead however the game still could have gone either way. The Maulers could not seem to pull it together as the Bavarians begun to run away with the lead. Final score the Bavarians 225 to Mountain Town Maulers 143.

2012 EKRDL Finals Action

Well the season is over...can't really believe it! What a year it's been.
EKRDL Championships were held last Saturday night, September 15, in Marysville BC.

In the Finals this season, ACRG faced, arguably, their toughest opponent in the league, the Killer Rollbots from Invermere BC. After watching the Bavarian Barbarians make an immense comeback, in the second half of their game, to take the win over Cranbrooks' Mountain Town Maulers 206-198, ACRG lined up on the jammer line to attempt to hold onto their "undefeated" reputation.

The Killer Rollbots bought an fast, intense, hard hitting, controlling game on the weekend, tightening up their to-date penalty-heavy jamming, taking the win over us, ACRG, 205-119. ACRG played a strong game, their jammers taking a hell of a beating each lap through the pack, but were unable to match the relentless KR blockers on the day.

Congratulations to Invermere's Killer Rollbots, East Kootenay Roller Derby League' 2012 Champions!!

Scrap to the Future Action, Action, Action!

The East Kootenay Roller Derby Semi Finals were held in Fernie, BC, last weekend. A roaring success, judging by the rowdy crowd attending.

The first bout of the evening, saw a much anticipated match up between the Killer Rollbots and the Bavarian Barbarians. The Bavarian Barbarians declared a forfeit just days prior to the event, due to  injuries to key players on their team. However, this gave them the opportunity to recruit a pair of upcoming skaters from Creston's Black Eyed Cherries: Kerrazzy and Meter Maid. Watch out for this pair!

With Coach Lime trackside on their bench, the Bavarian Barbarians put up more than a good fight, but were overcome by the cohesive, strategic Rollbot game. The bout ended in a score of 267 to 145 to the Killer Rollbots, who advance to the finals in Marysville on September 15th.

Second bout of the night was between the home town team, Fernie's Avalanche City Roller Girls and Cranbrook's Mountain Town Maulers. Avalanche City, also down to only eight players due to injuries and illness, came out and showed their home crowd what hard work and solid teamwork can achieve. Missing Coach HeWore on their bench, the girls were still able to channel his wisdom and pull out a win against the Maulers, despite the two new Mountain Town Maulers' jammers giving them a real run for their money! Boy, do those Maulers sport a mean hit!!

Final score 255-108. Avalanche City through to the finals.
